Day #121

Today was a bad day.
This day was the reason why I haven't been updating the blog on a regular basis.
When I turned on my computer this morning, sparks flew out the backside of my CPU. (Turns out it was the power supply which had run out of juice and caused a lightshow.)

I was scared out of my mind. Nooooooooo!!

Thank you to a very a good friend for lending me her laptop for as long as I need it!

Day #120

Back at the beginning of this project, I signed up at Toyvoyagers.com. So far, the experience has been great. I didn't do much research when I had sent out the two Toys of mine, so one is still out there in the world, with someone who refuses to contact me. That's really the only bad experience I've had, and it my was my fault.
And then today when Nic picked up the mail he found another ToyVoyager that had come back to me (good thing I put my return address on there!). I'm not sure what happened with the package, there are a few scribbles in Spanish and I think it said something like the person had moved. Grrrreat.
Anyways, everything has been worked out. But that's the first time I've had a package of mail returned to me!

Day #119

With so much going on around the world in regards to global warming, recycling, "eco-this" and "eco-that", I thought it would be neat to come up with a list of things we do to keep from wasting...

-Recycling as much as possible (glass, plastics, papers)
-I let my hair air dry instead of running the blow dryer for nearly 20 minutes straight
-Wash all the laundry in cold water
-Re-use the last laundry' cycle's rinse water for the first wash cycle in the next load
-Only having lights on in the rooms we're in
-Not using paper plates
-Using canvas/reusuable shopping bags for groceries, etc (plus they are much more sturdy than those taboo plastic bags!)
-Only using rain water collected to water plants and the grass when necessary
-Composting food scraps, egg shells, yard waste, etc

There are probably other things I can't think of right now, but what I'd also like to do is get a push mower instead of the gas mower we have, as well as switching our current water heater for an electric water heater. We saw one of those on the Holmes on Homes show. Not only does it save a huge amount of space (it's just a box on the wall, kind of like the circut panel thing) but it only heats the water you need. Cool!
I've also gotta work on taking much shorter showers... that's a bad thing I do. But I'm striving to improve! Our utilities bill will surely reflect that too :-)

Day #118

While shooting portraits of a horse, the stable manager came up to me and asked about my photography. I ended up giving her my business card with the promise of doing more horse portraits in the future!

Day #117

This morning I was up at 6:15am in order to get a rainbarrel for only $30. Everywhere in the stores they are selling them for at least $100, so this was a steal of a deal! I got in line at 6:45, and I overheard many people saying that those at the front of the line had been there since 3:00am. Seriously...
Anyways so it was advertised that the sales would start at 7:30. Thankfully though they started selling at 7am! I had plans at 8am and I didn't want to be late. It worked out perfectly; it took me a half hour to get up to the front! I was so happy to get a rainbarrel; they're even designed to be connected with other barrels too, so maybe next year I'll get another one! :-)

Day #116

Today, I made it to the Ministry of Health to officially change my name for my health records. It will be my first government-issued "new name" identification!
So weird...

Day #115

Today, a friend & I put together a care package for another online friend in the hospital, who we'd never met in real life.

As well, I signed up for Photojojo's Time Capsule project.

Day #114

I'm running low on contacts... I only bought the six-month supply when I had my last eye exam. So, instead of going back to where I originally bought the contacts, I decided to order more from 1-800 Contacts. Wow! Doing that saved me $10/box! AND they ship to Canada (free, for orders over $50 which is pretty easy to do...)
I'm ecstatic! I LOVE saving money!
*This is purely my opinion of my experience! I've never been paid for any review I've written.

Also today I picked up a new recycling bin and composter (FREE!) from our Regional Waste Management plant. I meant to do this yesterday but I didn't have time to get there. Sweet!

Day #113

Today, I left a disposable camera on a random bench in Victoria Park in Kitchener.

[Update:] *squee!* I was so excited to pick up the camera and discover that people had actually taken pictures with the camera!

These are the resulting photos. Click them for larger versions!

Thanks to photojojo.com for suggesting this idea!

[update#2] I emailed Jay (the original "bench camera" guy).

"Oh wow!
That's really awesome, Lisa!

Even if a random person takes a picture of the ground, these photos never
fail to be interesting to me.
Very good work.
Thanks so much for sending me the links.

Day #112

In honour of the spring season, I have gone absolutely beserk when it comes to "spring cleaning". Even at work.
I requested a can of pressurized air so I could clean my keyboard. Awesome! All those dust bunnies and occasional crumbs are now gone. I was amazed at how fast the can got cold. Apparently you can get frostbite from the contents. I was thinking I could get frostbite just from holding the can after awhile! Brutal.

Day #111

Tonight, I tried (really tried) to watch all three Jurassic Park movies back-to-back. Starting the first one at 7:30pm was the first wrong move I made! I fell asleep halfway through The Lost World.
I will finish this new thing tomorrow for sure.

Day #110

stamp love! While still in Buffalo, I decided I would buy stamps and mail my penpal letters from the US Post Office. Definitely never done that before, as I live in Canada!
I had to explain to a gentleman in line why I was taking a picture of the stamps and letters before I mailed them away, as to why I was doing that. Hee hee hee :-)

Day #109

Tonight was an adventure. My best friend and I drove down to Buffalo, NY to drop her mom off at the airport. But, we did some shopping & eating before settling down at the hotel.
I ate a bloomin' onion at Chilli's, and drank a few strawberry mango Margaritas. It was amazing! The food was fantastic and the drinks (I've never had a Margarita!) were just delicious. I'll definitely go back there someday!

And how could I forget the hallway antics?!

Day #108

I stayed at home to work today. I used my "lunch hour" to do some laundry and hang it up outside. Nothing smells as good as sun-dried laundry! I was happy to finally hang it up outside instead of using the dryer. It was the first time I did that in this house; I always prefer to hang up the laundry instead. Who needs to waste energy to dry clothes that you're in no rush to wear all at once anyways? :-)

Actually my new thing this evening was I watched a full episode of South Park. I will never get that 30 minutes of my life back, but I was productive and used the commercial time to write back to four of my penpals.
I've seen & heard bits of South Park over the years, and I'm so thankful I never got into watching it. I don't have patience for stupidity!

Day #107

On weekdays when there are hockey games in the evenings, dinner has to be super fast. So tonight, I took to multitasking and I created mini pizzas on English muffins, with all the fixin's while gabbing on the phone about taxes and life.
I almost forgot the cheese, but I got them in the oven while still talking. Pretty cool :D

Day #106

Today, I came up with my first-ever menu plan for a week.
Here's to hoping it will assist with our grocery shopping list!

Day #105

The last time I went to the library I had to drop off the Sound of Music and pick up the book I'd placed on hold: Extreme Office Crafts by Jimmy Knight & Tom Chalmers.
This book is hilarious.
Today I created a nameplate and eraser stamp out of office supplies. Carving an eraser is no easy task... and then realizing if I want to use it as a stamp, "L365" will clearly be backwards. Oops!

Day #104

HUGE thanks to Domestik Goddess for featuring my project on her blog on March 29th! Thanks to the exposure, I received a few more ideas to use for my project.
Tonight I drew a summer scene on my bedroom window with washable markers. What a great idea! I didn't think the markers would work so well on the glass, but they did. I left a cute note with the picture as well :-) This was fun!

Hilarious videos from Improv Everywhere! :-)
