Day #91

Today, I joined Twitter. It's a growing trend, so I'm told. I like using my cellphone for text messaging, and it's neat to know what your friends are up to! (When they update their status, you can choose to have that update sent to your phone). Hey, why not!

As well, I created a series of avatars with moods. This was so much fun. It was close to Day #73 when I created a Mii but still different because I created different expressions, haha. (Thanks to for sharing this tool!)

Day #90

I woke up to another sunny spring day, but the sun was a bit deceiving. This afternoon I participated in yet another event, this time on a smaller scale. I took photos and video for The Lost Ring "labyrinth game". The Lost Ring is... an ARG, an alternative reality game. I don't fully understand how they work, but basically it is a fictional game played within real life.
I've never participated in anything ARG-related until today. It's really intriguing but I just don't get it.

Check out this reference written by a close friend of mine: []

This photo is of one of the Toy Voyagers I'm currently hosting (Day #4) and he's watching the kids play the game.

[UPDATE! My friend has now been published in regards to The Lost Ring. Check it out here! I was there!]

Day #89

Today was the celebration of Earth Hour! A worldwide event? Why wouldn't I participate?! :D

Unfortunately I wasn't able to complete my shirt I started yesterday, but I still actively participated with Earth Hour. I was on the computer until 7:59pm, and then I completely shut it down. I went downstairs and turned off the light in the living room, and lit a candle. My husband refused to turn the TV off, but I figured we were doing pretty well since nothing else was on! :D
A few minutes later I drove downtown to see the Earth Hour party at our city hall. During my drive I was anxious to see if anyone else had turned off their lights, and I was disappointed that not everyone was participating. Regardless, the event downtown was really neat! It was really cold, but I managed to snap a few pictures of the darkness :-) I was happy to see that our own city officials were taking this seriously!

Day #88

Tomorrow is Earth Hour. But I didn't really look into what it was all about until yesterday. I really wanted to buy one of those tshirts, however it wouldn't have arrived until well after the event! I thought about buying a new shirt and painting my own "Earth Hour" design on the front. And THEN I had a better idea: go to Value Village and buy a few used shirts to reuse and recycle them into a new creation.

I got to Value Village and purchased three shirts (from the kids' section since I didn't need a LOT of material!) and only spent $9. Now to put the shirt together...

Day #87

This is my cousin's daughter (my second cousin?) she'll be 9 months old on March 30th, and I let her chomp on my finger. She was walking around, to my mom, my uncle, my cousin, and then she flopped down in front of me. While I was talking to everyone else, little girl grabbed my finger and stuck it in her mouth (ewww!) No worries, my hands were clean. It was a weird feeling! She has a few teeth, and used them on me, haha. Every few seconds I would scream in pain but baby is teething; it's to be expected. Definitely something I've never done! Haha :-)

Day #86

For Christmas I received the National Geographic: Book of Knowledge as a gift. I had been eyeing it for a few months prior to Christmas, and it was a nice surprise. I think books make the best presents for any occasion.
So, I've read a few things in this book and today I decided I would read about the history of the earth.
Apparently before people were on the earth, there were hominoids. What? I will have to read more about this, but I'm not sure I believe it all... it's interesting nonetheless!

Day #85

As a kid it was normal to find ways to trick each other. Well today I learned how to really lock up my ring fingers. My goal was to get my husband to do this as well, but he was looking over my shoulder while I was reading about how to do it and why it works.
(Each finger has it's own tendon, except the ring finger which is connected to the middle finger). So that's why it won't go anywhere! Haha, genius :D

Day #84

I may do something new everyday, but I sure don't update the blog everyday! I really have to work on that!

So! Today I had a great idea for another project I wanted to start: building my family tree.

After talking about family and learning about our relatives from years gone by, I really wanted to start getting this information organized. I did a few Google searches and finally landed on, where you can sign up for free and start creating a humongous tree. It was fun to start! I would like to keep a chart going for this as a hard copy though, just in case. And I'll have to talk with my grandmother a lot more about our family's history.

I learned that my grandma's great-grandmother was from the Player family, the manufacturers of Player's cigarettes! However, when she married someone of a lower-income family, the Players disowned her. I wonder how different my life would be now, had that woman married into the "right kind" of family!

Day #83

Not by choice, we drove by an accident on the expressway just minutes after it happened. Never done that before! And because we were there right away and so close, I managed to snap a few photos of the mess. I have no idea what happened because neither the newspaper or the local news on tv reported any information in regards to this accident. I sent in my photos but nobody published/shared them. Oh well.
Thankfully no one was seriously injured, or else I wouldn't have posted these pictures. I think the van is a write-off though...

Day #82

Today, I dyed my own hair. There's nothing new about that, however I've never actually done it myself. I've either had a friend or the salon, or my mom slop on the ammonia to colour my hair mass.
And even though I started to do it myself, I gave up fairly quickly and asked my mom to finish it off for me. My goal was all over blond locks as I've had for a long time. Unfortunately, I now have orange! My husband has nicknamed me Coppertop.

Whatever. I'll get it fixed in a few days so no photo goodness right now. Later! :D

Day #81

In celebration of Easter, and my friend's dad returning from a business trip, she asked me if I would like to help her cook a turkey. By ourselves. Yeah!
So we did. I cooked a turkey with one of my best friends. It was a nice surprise for her dad, since his business trip had him in Mexico eating tacos for nearly 40 days. And, surprisingly to us, we managed to not destroy it whatsoever! Not like it's hard... the only frustrating part for us was waiting for the temperature gage to pop up and let us know it had reached it's proper cooked temperature. After five and a half hours, her dad took it out of the oven and sure enough, the temperature thingy had been stuck! Thankfully though, the turkey wasn't overcooked at all. In fact, it was the juiciest white meat I've ever had. Honestly! :-) And we received compliments all around the table. Yay!

Day #80

Today I borrowed an idea from the tv show "FRIENDS". In Season 3, "The One Where No One is Ready":

Joey: Okay, buddy-boy. Here it is: You hide my clothes, I'm wearing everything you own.
Chandler: Oh my God! That is so not the opposite of taking somebody's underwear!
Joey: Look at me--I'm Chandler! Could I be wearing any more clothes?

I didn't wear everything Nic owns, but I did put on eight of Nic's shirts. I'm not a tiny person in any way and Nic is only a few inches bigger than I am, so putting on eight shirts was a tight fit!

Day #79

On day #71 I wrote in a letter to the editor for Elle Canada. Today I read all the credits for my March 2008 issue. I believe in giving credit where it's due, always, and for once I took the time to read each title and name of those individuals listed on the credit pages. I even learned that the Editor-in-Chief for Fashion is currently on maternity leave. I didn't think that would be printed in there, but you never know what you'll find in any magazine!

Day #78

Something I've wanted to do for a long time is create and send in a postcard to Postsecret, which I finally did. Obviously I can't post a picture of it, and it's not as juicy as some of the ones that are posted on the official website weekly. If I am posted, I'll be sure to make a note of it!

Day #77

Tonight I decided to work on my form. I went from a sitting to standing position while balancing my Harry Potter book on my head. It was a bit harder than I thought, but considering I was sitting on my bed to do this, that was the tricky part.

Day #76

You know those shows where fitness gurus go into people's houses and go through their groceries and cupboards and throw out all the bad foods? Well if I lived alone and I had one of those people come in they wouldn't find any of that crap. Honestly! I'm not a snack person but I don't eat super healthy either... the worst you'd find is cookies and icecream, haha. Anyways so today I ate potato chips with dill pickle chip dip. Sure I'll eat some chips but never with dip. Why add more calories to an already bad snack? Well, the dip was delicious! Not something I could do all the time, but I tried. After years of watching other people dip their chips in I finally tried it for myself. :D

Day #75

Tonight was the Stag & Doe event I had sold tickets for a few weeks ago. I'm not part of the bridal party (I'm the photographer) but as a close friend I was recruited to help out! No problem. So in the early afternoon a few of us got together to roll cold cuts of meat onto five trays and then at the party I went around selling silent auction tickets and ran a version of Crown & Anchor. It was good times! Here I am with the busy Maid of Honour, and some of the meat trays (they didn't run out of food, that's for sure!) :-)

Day #74

Hard to believe, but tonight was the last home game for the Kitchener Rangers (Jr A hockey). I was able to spend the last period up in the company box where I watched as the Rangers won their 53rd game of the season! It was awesome!

53 wins!

I created a PC version of a Mii!

Thanks to for inspiring me!

Day #72

I love my hair. (Most days!) And I try to take care of it. But I just have so much of it that it just gets annoying. Regardless...
When you walk into any store that carries hair products, you can't help but notice the wall of hair accessories and tools, literally. One thing you will never find on that wall is what I used. Hah. I brushed my hair with a pasta fork. Not as effective, but it did the trick. Woo :D

Day #71

A few years ago I subscribed to Elle Canada, one of my favourite magazines to read every month. But then, I cancelled my subscription because I was busy buying a house, planning a wedding, and going to school for photography, all at the same time. Crazy! So a few months ago I received one of those business reply ads/cards for Elle Canada at the usual low rate, so I decided I was ready to start reading it again! I love magazines! After all, I DO reuse them for scrapbooking purposes! :-) While I was engorged in my magazine, I came across an article that just peaked my interest so much, that I decided to respond to the article by writing a letter to the editor. It was just short and sweet, and I sent it via email. Even if they don't publish my letter at least I sent one in for the very first time! (And if I wrote the best letter, I win some perfume! Yay!)

Day #70

Tonight, I saw a commercial for something free so I went online and ordered it.

Nestle's CoffeeMate is going out for more business, and has been advertising free Coffeemate samples. I'm not sure if it's open to US residents, but for once, it's a free offer for Canadians!

I'm looking forward to trying this flavour/whitener stuff, since I've never used it. I love coffee and mixing it up sounds like a good idea to me!

Day #69

Well, we had a record snowfall. It's been 84 years since our region has seen this much snow! And to celebrate, I used the snowblower!
My husband kept refusing to teach me how, but little did he know I was observing the techniques and when he abandoned it to use a shovel real quick, I dove in to save the day! (And because I did, he jokingly refused to take my picture to post here on the blog. So, this is Nic!)
Well, the snowblower weighs a tonne and vviiibbrratess way too much, so I'll leave all the snowblowing to him. But so easy to get the snow out of the way. I'm SO thankful we have one!

Day #68

no plows yet Thanks to the enormous dumping of snow we had, cars were getting stuck on the roads all over the city today! It just did not stop snowing, not even for a minute.
My husband & I decided to venture out in it, with the expectation that we would also get stuck eventually (well, I did at least!) And boy was I right.
Upon leaving the restaurant, the spot where our car was parked was nicely filled in. You couldn't even see where we had driven to get into the spot! Since Nic was driving, and we got stuck in the parking lot, I got out and pushed him out of the rut. Now don't send my husband hate mail for not being the one pushing - I made it clear to him that I was capable of pushing us out! It wasn't so bad... until we were nearly home, and we got stuck again. There were about 4 cars in the middle of our street who were stuck, and we waited for them to move. However, after sitting there for so long we got stuck again. I got out to push us again, and one of the neighbours came over to help me push. I was so thankful at this point, because it was just getting frustrating! Eventually the car was rolling smoothly, and I waved and yelled out "I'll see you at home!" A short five minute walk was fine with me :D

Day #67

Today the weather network and every radio station was announcing yet another winter storm warning headed our way. That must mean it's getting a bit warmer! It's been pretty cold these last couple of days, no snow accumulation. Until tonight! I decided I would celebrate the coming of spring (soon!) by wearing shorts to work during winter. I'll admit it was a bit chilly, but nothing serious. The lowest temperature all day was -4 Celsius (24 Fahrenheit). The unfortunate thing was I didn't get a photo of me outside in the snow with my shorts, just me leaving for work.

I have many co-workers as my witnesses...
"Are you crazy?!"
"WHY are you wearing shorts?"
"You do know we're getting another storm this afternoon!"

Just trying something new!

Day #66

I read on JenMac's blog about eating candy for every meal one day. There's no way I could do that, but I did do this: I ate a Peanut Butter & Jam sandwich for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And for a snack, I made a half-sandwich of Peanut Butter & honey. Yum!
And I didn't feel sick at all!

(a huge bite for the camera! haha)

Hilarious videos from Improv Everywhere! :-)
