Day #60

Happy March, everyone! I cannot believe it's already March. Time is just flying by!! Especially for a friend of mine, who is getting married in a couple months now. Having just gone through the stress and excitement of planning a wedding and buying the first house, I know exactly how she feels. It will come and go by so fast - I mean it's hard to believe I've been married now for just over five months! WOW!
Anyways, in preparation for her & her fiance's wedding, the bridal party has been selling stag & doe tickets to raise money for them. These tickets get you into the party as well - and these are some fun parties! So tonight, I sold Stag & Doe tickets at the hockey game. I've never been in a bridal party besides my own (but I didn't sell my own tickets), so this was definitely something new!

Day #59

I was delighted when I opened my inbox today to find another friendly email from one of the mailing lists I joined. I highly recommend Photojojo to anyone who a)Likes crafts b)Likes photography b)Has a digital OR film camera and c)Has a device to read the emails. Or any of the above!
So in today's email they were advertising another photography project: PostCrossing! Who doesn't like to receive mail that isn't a bill? I do, and I signed up for Postcrossing and sent two postcards in the mail! :-) A very quick sign up form and I was all ready to send my first 5 postcards to random people around the globe. Very exciting! For every postcard that is received, my address goes into the queue for the next outgoing postcards!

Day #58

Another bitterly cold day, I was able to stay warm in my home office. The sun shone all day which helped!
While working this afternoon I ran into a coding problem with one of the emails I was formatting, using a third party program online. I just could not get the document to save and it was getting really, really frustrating. So, I clicked on the "Help" link, and the help options available to me were grand. I chose to chat with a customer service rep live instead of calling. I was curious how it would work, but it was easy - just like normal instant messaging programs, only "professional".
(Unfortunately, the rep was unable to help me solve the problem, but a few hours later I was able to complete my task).

Day #57

it can scan Business is not quite booming yet, but I'm getting there. One of the most essential business tools has got to be a printer, and that's what I did today: I bought a brand-spankin' new Epson CX8400 All-in-One printer for my home office. I'm really excited. I've had a printer before, but second hand and it kept drying up if I didn't use it every single day.
So far, I've printed off address labels for writing my penpals around the world, but it took so aligning work to figure it out. Oh well - I LOVE my new printer!

I can't bear to take off the protective plastic!

Day #56

I still can't believe that this project is still going for me! Yeah! And I've got readers I never knew I had. Haha :-)

Today's new thing was yet again something by accident. Literally! Around lunch hour one of my coworkers sent out an email letting everyone know that she'd found something. Well, it turned out to be mine. So, after work I went to the end of the parking lot, and found the car's license plate in the snowbank. Apparently one day I parked too close into the snowbank and the plate came off the front end of the car! I probably would have never even noticed. Whoops!
- - -
Now for a few updates of past entries!
Day #4: I'm currently hosting six Toyvoyagers, and I have one out in the USA somewhere. The cabbage patch doll I sent to Malaysia never arrived, and it's been almost two months. Otherwise, I enjoy being part of ToyVoyagers very much!
Day #21: The photobook I ordered arrived safe and sound, and I was quite impressed. I will most likely order another book in the near future!
Day #25: When I hit that other Volvo, I was expecting to hear back from the owner the next day. However, I've never heard from her and I've since decided that the "accident" was merely just a scuff and not a scratch.
Day #37: When I signed up for an Entrecard I wasn't able to add it to my Livejournal version of the blog, so I created a copy here at Blogger.com. The Entrecard has proved to be a valuable part of my Blogspot blog! I've had a serious increase of readers, and I've found new blogs that are of interest to me.
Day #39: City complaints are becoming an even bigger problem than just my street. Residents are complaining that resources aren't being used efficiently, and roadways in some neighbourhoods (not mine) are still not cleared after nearly two weeks since the last big snowstorm.
Day #42: My post about cutting up my credit card may have been misleading. I still have one credit card, that I've saved for emergencies only. I just found that having two was unnecessary, and leaves the opportunity open for accumulating out of control debts. So, instead of leaving the temptation there I cut up one of my cards.

Day #55

Last weekend while we were in Michigan, we made a stop at the grocery store and we were able to pick up a few specialty beverages. One of my best friends loves Tequila Rose, so I bought this cute gift set for her, and I was finally able to present her with it today! She asked if I ever tried it, and I said no. Right away I thought it could be my new thing for today, so I tried a shot of Tequila Rose. I'm not sure if all Tequila Rose has a strawberry cream flavour like this one. It looked just like Pepto-Bismal but had a nice smooth taste to it!

To buy or not to buy? Bought!

Day #54

The goal for today was to throw a great party/day for our friend who is moving across the country in a few days, and the day ended on good note. Tonight, I sat in a bar & grill restaurant, and watched the Toronto Maple Leafs play AND win the game. I've honestly never watched an entire Leafs game, because I'm not a fan of the team! BUT the atmosphere in the restaurant was amazing. LOUD TVs all around blasting the game at us, lots of food and laughter and socializing. It was a beautiful thing! Then, during the intermissions one of the waitresses would draw names to win stuff. (Customers won these ballots by purchasing certain beers.) Nic gave me a few ballots to write my name down since I'm not a beer drinker, and I won a tshirt! At first they tried to give me a Leafs tshirt and I politely exchanged it for an NHL shirt. :-)

Day #53

Every year in October, my office's social committee runs insane fundraising activities for the United Way. By "insane" I mean very good ideas to raise money, like for instance the auction where I won 4 tickets to sit in a box at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium for any Kitchener Rangers hockey game. I could choose any day to use the tickets so I decided I would use them tonight for my husband's birthday.
It was great! We had space to sit, stand, and relax. Eating whatever we wanted (what we ordered: pizza, wings, fruit) and just having a great time. There were about 11 of us in the box, five of whom I knew.
I'm thankful that we have our own season tickets for the Kitchener Ranger games however, because I found that sitting in the box was quite distracting from the game. Or maybe it was just me. :-) It was fun, but I could never do it again.

Day #52

During the workday, I believe everyone should take five minutes to relax. I usually do, but always at my desk in front of the computer. Not such a break. So today I played a 30-second round of Xs&Os with my coworker friend. What's unique about the game we played? Well, she has this really neat Xs&Os board that she received as a gift. It's adorable and I had to integrate it into my 365 project.

My cows won!

Day #51

So tonight was the Lunar Eclipse... and I captured it! Every few minutes I took a photo and then uploaded the pictures to Flickr right away. I've never done that so fast, nor have I shot the entire eclipse. It was freezing cold outside, so the photos were taken from inside my home office :-)

Day #50

http://www.wikihow.com/Cope-With-Short-Term-Memory-Problems

New thing for today: Learning how to cope with short term memory problems.
I value my memory, a LOT. My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1990, and the two years that followed until his death in 1992 were absolutely horrible. I fear that someday I will be diagnosed with this devastating disease, so the more I can do now to try and prevent it, the better. I keep scrapbooks, a personal blog, and I take lots of photos. I reminisce a lot too, talking and sharing about "old times" and good memories.
I remember my grandpa as a kind and gentle person. I was only 7 when he passed away, and family members tell me that although his memory was fading, he could relate to me the best. Perhaps it was because children don't know as much and aren't as intelligent as adults? Like he was reverting back to being a child? I don't know. The movie The Notebook especially breaks my heart everytime I see it. My grandma is a very strong woman :-)

Day #49

Today we came home from our weekend away in Michigan. Packed up everything that we bought and our clothes and junk and carried it all down to the car. Then we turned on the neat little Magellan GPS, and it told us how to get home. Unfortunately, you can't always rely 100% on these GPS units, because they are just computers. We found this out by following the directions it gave us - against what we thought would be right direction. Sure enough, we were right and the GPS was wrong, sending us 8 kilometres in the wrong direction. Arg!!

The GPS unit with the Toy Voyagers!

Day #48

Ever since I took English Media back in high school (which was one of my most favourite classes ever) I find myself paying closer attention to commercials and all kinds of advertising... what are they selling, what's their target audience, does the ad make any kind of relative sense... It's really interesting. I also wonder what it would be like to be the person bringing their ad ideas to the boadroom and try to sell their idea to the company. Haha. So, today I decided to do something because I was told it would improve my life: I bought mascara because I was influenced by the commercial I saw on TV. I don't normally wear makeup, but I just had to have it! And, I found it on sale. Bonus!

Day #47

I love going on road trips, and Nic & I had planned this trip a few months ago. Finally, it's here! We travelled nearly 5 hours to Frankenmuth, Michigan to stay two nights at the Bavarian Inn Lodge. The plan was to go down to Plymouth tonight to see our favourite Ontario Hockey League team play, but my husband didn't realize it was another 80 minute drive to get there. So we stayed in and checked out our hotel a bit instead. Frankenmuth is a cute little town, like a little Bavaria. Gorgeous! We are planning on coming back in the summer months because there seems to be a few things you can do there, like visit the petting zoo!

Day #46

A few weeks I entered a contest. It was a simple technique that the newsletter "Photojojo" was sharing with us: putting words on a tshirt using Photoshop. I had some time so I decided to try the technique and entered my photo to the contest pool. Well, it was a nice surprise to find out I'd won!

At first I thought it was a scam email but it was pretty legit (as I found out soon enough). My prize was to select any tshirt from www.insanelygreattees.com, and to apply the special code to get it free. Unfortunately because I'm in Canada, I still had to pay a bit for shipping. A nice surprise in my mailbox (yesterday!) was my prize tshirt arrived, and I wore "the bomb" to work. I was so proud! I'll just be sure to not wear it at airports and other high-security areas for fear of being interrogated!

--
Also new today, a friend sent me an email asking about a ring tone that can only be heard by youths under 20 years old... so I did a bit of research about the "teen buzz" - the mosquito ring tone. Because of the high frequency, and because as we get older we lose hearing, only young people can hear it. It was pretty interesting! And kind of depressing to find that I can only hear the "mosquito" (at 15 kHz) for 40 years & below! I'm only 23! :(

Day #45

So today was that lovey-dovey day that my husband & I don't celebrate simple because it's such a hyped up retail day. I do like a few decorations (on my desk, not at home) and stickers and cute stuff like that. I never expect gifts for the V-day nor do I ever want gifts on this day. It's like a forced-to-buy-something day that I refuse to take part in. Anyways! Nic did do something nice for me, he baked a batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for us :-) It was a nice surprise! So, I took two cookies with a scoop of ice cream (that I really wanted) and created my own ice cream sandwich. Yummy! I've never made my own sandwich like this, it's usually just the ones from the grocery store. This one was way better and more delicious because they were homemade cookies!

Day #44

Most days I don't leave myself enough time to eat breakfast before heading out the door for work. Thankfully, there is a catering company that comes to our office everyday. Today I picked out a new thing to try: I picked the parfait and ate it. I've never liked the idea of mixing dry granola with fresh fruits and yogurt, but it was delicious! I'm going to buy another one for sure, this one was just stuffed with fresh fruit! Yum!

Day #43

Well, who doesn't want to know how smart they are?
I scored 120!

I Googled, and I completed the first IQ test I found.
www.iqtest.com offers a quick test with 38 true or false questions. I was emailed my score, and I was surprised (and pleased!) to learn I had scored 120. Pretty neat!

Day #42

I admire the willpower of those people so far in debt, that they cut up their credit cards. Not like it's going to solve all their problems, because you can still use the card when it's in million pieces. It's got to be the ceremony of destruction that I think vents a kind of anger... Anyways, that's what I did tonight: I cut up my credit card to avoid future debt death. It felt good! One less item in my wallet to cause me grief! I'm so thankful I don't have sixteen cards like some of those people on TV... I couldn't imagine. One was enough for me! :-)

Day #41

Since Day #37 when I signed up at Entrecard.com, I've had various emails come back to me in regards to this new traffic-building "thingy". One message I received tonight was from someone who visited my blog, and tagged me in a meme (pronounced "meem"). So, I completed a new meme after I was tagged by a new blogger friend.

I’ve been tagged by a fellow blogger, GeekMomMashup (http://geekmommashup.com)

Rules.

1. The person tagged must copy the word (”Blego”) and paste the definitions of the word contributed previously by the people who did the meme.
2. Link backs would be nice, but not necessary.
3. The person tagged must then add her own definition in this format ‘yourname.com’s definition’ and place your link. Being creative with the acronym is encouraged.

So what the heck is “blego”?

Blego: (definition by ) - the newest descriptive word for something amazing.... "That is so BLEGO!"

Blego (GeekMomMashup.com definition) - A mispronunciation of the name of Aragorn’s horse “Brego,” in The Lord of the Rings. I love that book!

Blego (evilwoobie.com’s definition) - n. an acronym of “blog ego”, which pertains to a blogger’s sense of self in the blogosphere.

Blego (Darkside-Dreamland.com’s definition) - n. a protologism combining blog and ego. Used to define the ego of a blog or blogger. Like personal ego, blego may be good or bad.

Blego (benbarden.com’s definition) - n. a toy for children to build with but with a B in front.

BLEGO (WoganMay.com’s definition) - abbr. Breaking Little Enterprises - Godzilla Organisations.

Blego (Blogosis.com’s definition) - n. An Eggo waffle and a blog mixed together. I don’t know what this would look like, but maybe I can come up with a prototype.

Blego (amid.com’s defintion) - expression. “Bleh, let’s go!” If you’re being forced to go somewhere or do something, by your spouse or friends, just slur those words together and get “blego”. It is usually said after a big sigh. For example, “Do I have to? Hrmph! Blego!”

4. Answer the following questions.

A. Do you know what your blog is really about, and you can write a one-sentence promotional material for it in a flash? If yes, write it here.

> Lisa365 is all about trying new things like foods, crafts, or just silly things with the goal of making one year of life more interesting!

B. Do you join social networks to promote your blog? If yes, do you hope to find friends in these social networks and in the process get regular readers of your blog?

> So far I've only joined Entrecard.com thanks to a fellow blogger friend, and I've got my blog feeding onto Facebook. I'm not so much looking for new friends... Anyone out there looking for something humourous to read or for me to share my embarrassments with. That's basically it! But new friends are always welcome! :D

C. Do you or do you plan to join ranking sites that put your blog in competition with others for popularity? If yes, do you or do you plan to monitor your stats regularly?

> Not at all. I don't want to track popularity because that's not what I'm about. If I only have my family as my readers, then that's just fine! I don't need to be published worldwide; I don't think I could handle it!

D. Do you tweak your blog often in accordance with the tips you get from blogging guides and gurus? If yes, list the bloggers you visit often to obtain these tips.

> Not really... I might find new words to use, or a different format for some entries after reading friend's blogs, but it's nothing fancy. I would just call it a little salt to give some flavour. :)

E. Do you think of your next post even if you have just written a new one? If yes, list your inspirations for posting, and/or some routines that you go through before posting.

> I wake up every morning thinking about my next post. Because the focus of my blog is one new thing everyday, I make the effort to post everyday. Sometimes it's a challenge to get it posted, but it's always on my mind.
Routines I guess would include gathering some graphics or editing a photo that I'm going to include with my post. It's different everyday. Sometimes I've got every word thought out already hour before and then other days I have to sit and wait for the right words to come to me.

5. Tag 5 other people to do the meme.

> I'm going to skip this part. If you feel like copying & reposting your own answers, feel free! Leave a link in a comment and I will read it :-)

Day #40

There's just something about temptation that is so... enticing. I saw two rows of wine glasses and I knew I had to do it: I built a tower using wine glasses, all the while my mom's back was turned. I know I could never conquer building a tower with playing cards, so the next best thing for me to use was her wine glasses. Thankfully, none broke. They were the sturdy kind! :-)

Day #39

I have a bad habit of complaining, but not making it public. Except on my blog, or to a very close friend. I hate gossip, but it's honestly hard to avoid. I made that one of my other resolutions this year, and so far so good I'd say.
But in my complaining department, I just had to do something in regards to my street. It's been snowing like crazy in the last two weeks. Our area has suffered two winter storms, bringing in a tonne of snow and leaving roads dangerous to everyone. And causing drivers to get stuck on their own streets. So, I called the City and complained. I didn't just complain. I questionned why some streets have been plowed numerous times, and ours hasn't seen one plow in three days. I was mad, but I do have an understanding that not everyone can be everywhere at once. Gah, but it's so annoying! Anyways, I hope that my small complaint will get something done. I felt bad but sometimes you have to speak up for things you want.

Day #38

Okay, I'm being really brave here. I know I sound horrible, but at least I can carry a tune. I have always wanted to do this. Hah. It might be the last time too...
So, my new thing for today was singing "Only Hope" by Switchfoot, and broadcasting it onto YouTube.

I titled it well. And no, you can't see me because I look stupid when I sing. :-)

Day #37

A girl I've known for pretty much my whole life left me an idea to try for my blog: Entrecard.
She's been on the internet since 1995 according to her bio, and is currently making money using the internet. Although I'm a bit hesistant to do something like that, I decided I've give it a try. I signed up with Entrecard.com with the hopes of making some money. The website says to put the "widget" on the sidebar, however, Livejournal doesn't support Javascript so I'm not sure this is going to work here. Hmm...

Day #36

It's almost that time of year again: Taxes. I've heard a few rumours regarding business owners and the benefits they have when it comes to tax filings. Perhaps it's when the business is doing really well, and they don't have a lot of "business expenses". I have no idea, so I researched how to Incorporate a Business in Ontario.

Business Law in Canada

A few years ago I studied Business Law, but because I'm not using this information on a regular basis I kind of forgot how things work. I picked up my thick textbook and browsed a few government websites... there's a trenmendous amount of information out there about the process of incorporation! And since I would like to incorporate my small photography business one day, this is valuable information.

Some useful links I visited:
www.gov.on.ca
www.oncorp.com

Day #35

I can't believe it... I bought the most expensive piece of plastic ever:
A spaghetti container for $800.

Okay, no more jokes. It was free money I'd received at a Tupperware Team Member's meeting & Recruitment night. We were awarded $100s of dollars for certain things. I'm not a Tupperware Lady by any means, but by attending the meeting and hosting a Tupperware party (this coming Thursday night) I was awarded $900 in coloured paper sheets.
It was set up like an auction, and after looking over several items up for bids, I decided that the spaghetti storage container had my name all over it. So I placed my bid. And another. My final bid of $800 won the spaghetti container!

Day #34

Today was Superbowl XLII... and I watched it!

Here is my handwritten entry :D

Day #33

Before I knew it, the day was almost over! I had to think fast while on my drive home. I was feeling pretty good, being in a good mood and all. So I wanted to share that.
I pulled into the local McDonald's Restaurant drive-thru, and ordered a smile. No word of a lie, when I got to the speaker I felt like an idiot.

"Welcome to McDonald's, what would you like to order?"
"Um... yes, I'd like to order a Smile, please"
*pause*
"A smile? Is that all?"
"Yep!" *giggle*

I get up to the first window and the guy looks at me like I'm drunk.

"Is that all you wanted, seriously?"
"Yes! Have a great night!"

I get to the second window, and that guy is just laughing his head off.

"Have a great night!" I say as I drive by.

My plan to make them smile worked! :D

Day #32

Feeling creative this evening, I decided to do some scrapbooking. It's been so long since I've done any... I was intending to go join a group on Wednesday night last week, but because of the weather & road conditions my husband didn't think it would be a safe drive out there.

So, I recycled old magazines on our bookshelf by cutting out words I found to be positive and encouraging, and scrapbooked only these words on a 12x12 page. It was a long process (sitting in front of the TV is quite distracting, as I'm still learning) but it was finally finished. I love it!
Hilarious videos from Improv Everywhere! :-)
